IN a repeat of last year, Grey High and Selborne will again square up for the Eastern Cape schools rugby bragging rights when they clash on the Philip field in Port Elizabeth on Saturday (August 15).

As in 2014, this fixture will decide the top rugby school in the Eastern Cape, with both teams having swept aside all local opposition this year. It promises to be a fascinating showdown, with Grey unlikely to repeat the 45-0 thumping they handed out when the teams last met in PE two years ago.

Their results against common opponents this year have been: v Queen’s: Grey won 46-13, Selborne won 25-9 and 39-31; v Dale: Grey won 31-17, Selborne won 42-26 and 44-13; v Grey College: Grey lost 34-22, Selborne lost 51-21; v St Andrew’s: Grey won 36-22, Selborne won 44-19; v Boland Landbou: Grey won 16-10, Selborne won 10-8.

The Mutual and Federal Premier Schools match will be broadcast live on the SuperSport Select SA channel (13.55) and repeated on SS8 on Sunday (08.05).

Brandwag, meanwhile, face another testing fixture after being shaded 17-14 by Nico Malan last weekend. They travel to George to take on an Outeniqua outfit always capable of challenging the best.

Nico Malan make the trip to Port Elizabeth to face Pearson in Summerstrand in what will be an interesting contest. The Humansdorp side will be in good spirits after the win over Brandwag, but Pearson are a competitive team and this should be a rousing encounter.

In a match which has been brought forward to Thursday (August 13), Victoria Park host Despatch, while DF Malherbe will be chasing another win at home when they play Andrew Rabie on Saturday morning.

There should also be a well-contested fixture in Uitenhage when the visiting Graeme side end their season against Muir, who went down 40-24 to another Grahamstown school, St Andrew’s, last weekend.

Graeme defeated St Andrew’s this year, but cannot underestimate the Muirites.

The fixtures, subject to change, are (home team first, 11.30am start unless stated):

Thursday: Victoria Park v Despatch (16.30).

Saturday: DF Malherbe v Andrew Rabie (11am), Outeniqua v Brandwag (13.00), Cillie v Westering,  Grey High v Selborne (14.00), Otto du Plessis v Newton Tech, Solomon Mahlangu v Humansdorp, Linkside v Ithembelihle, Pearson v Nico Malan, Ndzondelelo v Uitenhage, Bertram v Aeroville, Muir v Graeme.
