HSBC and ARU announce shortlist for 2015 Volunteer of the Year Awards

Loading...HSBC and the Australian Rugby Union are delighted to announce the finalists for the 2015 HSBC Volunteer of the Year, HSBC Lifetime Volunteer of the Year and HSBC Young Volunteer of the Year. The winners will be announced on August 27 at the John Eales Medal Dinner.
Award contenders were nominated through a national process which saw the rugby community recommend individuals who have volunteered their time to the game over a significant period.
The initial top three nominees for each State & Territory were compiled into a shortlist comprising of 15 finalist volunteers from across the eight states and territories.
The finalists include
HSBC Volunteer of the Year:
Andrew Ellem – Gosford Rugby Club (NSW)
Andrew Scannell – Sydney Irish Rugby Club (NSW)
Dave Tyson – Geraldton Rugby Club (WA)
Ronnie Collier – Batemans Bay & South Coast Junior Rugby (ACT)
Roy Utting – Woodville Rugby Union Club (SA)
HSBC Lifetime Volunteer of the Year:
John Woodhouse – Kiwi Hawthorn RUFC (VIC)
Michael Swinney – Jindabyne Rugby Club (ACT)
Robert Neill – Hay Cutters Rugby Club (ACT)
Siggi Buba – Casuarina RUFC (NT)
Sonny Jobe – Nerang Bulls RUFC (QLD)
HSBC Young Volunteer of the Year:
Andrew Morbey – Lindfield Rugby Club (NSW)
Asti Miller – Arks Rugby Club (WA)
Brayden West – Shamrocks RUFC (NSW)
Brody Kaaka – Helensvale Rugby Club (QLD)
Nicholas Sykes – UNSW Rugby Club (NSW)
Australian Rugby Union General Manager of Rugby Participation Andrew Larratt knows volunteers play a significant role in growing participation at the grass roots level:
“The finalists represent thousands of Rugby volunteers in the country who are passionate about the game and the benefits it holds for young boys and girls.”

Tony Cripps, Chief Executive for HSBC in Australia was pleased to be able to recognise the hard work put in by the finalists:

To enhance the volunteer program for 2015, HSBC will provide a $10,000 grant to the HSBC Volunteer of the Year winner’s Club and will also provide a $5,000 grant to the winner’s Club for the additional categories HSBC Lifetime Volunteer of the Year and the HSBC Young Volunteer of the Year.
New to the 2015 HSBC Volunteer of the Year program is the Fans Choice award which gives the wider rugby community the chance to vote for their favourite top ranked nominee in the program. Fans across the country voted through the Wallabies Facebook page and we are proud to announce that Andrew Scannell from Sydney Irish Rugby Club in NSW is the Fans Choice Winner for 2015, receiving a personalised Wallabies jersey signed by the 2015 squad.
