The wait is finally over – tickets go on public sale at 09h00 tomorrow (Wednesday) for South Africa’s biggest, best and most FOMO-inducing party when the HSBC Cape Town Sevens returns in December, after a two-year COVID-enforced shutdown.

Tickets range in price from R150 for Friday up to R825 for Sunday and available only and exclusively from www.ticketmaster.co.za and via
www.springboks.rugby.

The action starts at 14h00 on Friday, 9 December, and climaxes with the men’s final at 18h56 on Sunday, 11 December as 28 of the hottest-stepping, shapeshifting, try-scoring, and generally mind-boggling rugby teams from around the world strut their stuff in the Mother City.

South Africa’s men’s and women’s teams will be in action on all three days along with the cream of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

But as anyone who has ever been to the HSBC Cape Town Sevens before knows, there’s a lot more to enjoy alongside the rugby.

This is where 50 000 friends gather to celebrate the unofficial start of the South African summer season with live musical performances, dancers and pranksters, big screens and Fans Cams, DJs and MCs, food trucks and fancy dress, all packed into three days in December.

The public are once again reminded that unauthorized ticket re-sellers (such as Instaticket, GameDaySeats and Viagogo) do not have any official access to tickets (whether for primary sales or re-sale). Entry to the venue will not be honoured for tickets purchased from unauthorized ticket re-sellers.

Hospitality packages will go on sale shortly and are only available from SA Rugby. The public are advised not to entertain offers from online sources as they will be fraudulent. All inquiries should be made to
Hospitality@sarugby.co.za. Ticket and travel packages will also be available from SA Rugby Travel on www.sarugbytravel.com.

In a first for the HSBC Cape Town Sevens and to reduce the risk of ticket fraud, all tickets for the event will be digital, mobile-only tickets – which means there are no paper or electronic PDF tickets. Special encryption in each digital ticket means that only legitimate ticket owners with their unique digital mobile ticket, downloaded to the Ticketmaster app on their phone, will be able to gain entry.

Buyers will be allowed a maximum of 10 tickets – each of which can be digitally transferred to a friend or family member who will in turn be required to register as a ticket owner to have the ticket validated and transferred to them.

The stopover in Cape Town will be the third leg in the 2023 HSBC Sevens World Series, with the opening tournament taking place in Hong Kong in early November before heading to Dubai a week before the world descends on South Africa once more.

New Zealand did the double at the fifth instalment of the event when it was last held in 2019 as the first three-day event set records for tries scored and attendance.

All 16 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams will be in action when the excitement begins on Friday afternoon, 9 December.
