Jonah Lomu set to make an appearance at this weekend’s takealot.com Cape Town 10’s tournament

(6 February 2015, Cape Town) Jonah Lomu, one of rugby’s biggest icon’s is heading to the Mother City to participate in a special children’s coaching clinic hosted at this weekend’s takealot.com Cape Town 10’s event taking place at Hamilton’s Rugby Club in Green Point.

Lomu, who boasts 63 international caps for the All Blacks, is often regarded as one of the greatest rugby players of all time. He burst onto the international rugby scene at the 1994 Hong Kong Sevens tournament and was widely recognised as the best player at the 1995 World Cup. He also holds the record of highest try scorer in Rugby World Cup history with 15 tries.

Lomu will be assisting with the rugby coaching clinic, hosted on Saturday. Over 120 children from various under-resourced areas in the Western Cape will participate in the netball & rugby clinic which starts off with the ‘Springbok Experience’ and will end-off with the coaching clinic hosted at Hamilton’s.

Lomu joins a list of star-studded international sporting legends involved in this year’s takealot.com Cape Town 10’s tournament, including other ex All Black Legends: Christian Cullen and Carlos Spencer as well as former Springboks, Breyton Paulse, James Dalton, Butch James to mention just a few.

The takealot.com Cape Town 10’s is the brainchild of sporting mates Bob Skinstad & Robbie Fleck, and is the biggest 10s rugby event in the world. The event will see 110 rugby teams and 40 netball teams from 11 provinces and abroad battle it out over the 2 days. With up to 18 000 spectators, live music from some of SA’s top bands including Jack Parow, Good Luck and Kurt Darren, delicious food from Food Lovers Market, a massive beer tent as well as play areas and activities for the kids, the festival is set to be the event of the summer!
