If there is further improvement in the caliber of rugby on the third day of the Kearsney Easter Rugby Festival, those attending are in for a treat after the first two days of thrilling rugby, dogged defense and surprising upsets.  With attendances up on both days there should be another bumper crowd.

The three unbeaten sides after the first two days are Grey College, as expected, although they had to dig deep to win by a penalty in their first match against HTS Middelburg and Kearsney was in the match until the last eight minutes when Grey came through scoring two tries. Their final game against EG Jansen should be close if the East Rand visitors continue to improve.

In the biggest shock of the festival so far, SACS surprised themselves as well as all who have watched their games; and their committed defense to beat Affies on the second day will have lifted their confidences even further. Their final game against Westville will be a humdinger as the local lads will not want to lose a second match.

Selborne is probably the form side of the week and their final game is against the HTS Middelburg. The latter went down narrowly against Grey College and then won fairly comfortable against Glenwood. This will be Selborne’s stiffest encounter of the week.

The other two KZN teams, hosts Kearsney and Glenwood, are against Dale College and Menlo Park respectively. Both these matches could go down to the wire. The Kearsney faithful will be hoping that their team can bring a successful conclusion to the week in the final match.

The match between Affies, with their strong pack, could be one-sided against injury-hit Framesby.

Entry to the festival is R50 per vehicle and R20 for pedestrians, which includes a souvenir brochure with player statistics and pen photos.  There is ample secure parking available.  Food outlets and a refreshment marquee will ensure spectators are able to fully enjoy the family-friendly event.
