Siviwe “Shakes” Soyizwapi and Sergeal Petersen called up to National Sevens training squad.
Siviwe “Shakes” Soyizwapi and Sergeal Petersen, who have excelled in representing both the Eastern Province Kings and Southern Kings this season, have been called up to join the SA Sevens training squad ahead of the Dubai leg of the IRB Sevens tournament.

EP Rugby CEO, Charl Crous said Soyizwapi and Petersen would be flying through to Cape Town on Tuesday next week [SUBS: 29 October 2013] before joining the squad and team management in Stellenbosch, subject to them passing the necessary injury screening tests on Monday.

Crous said there were a few concerns over Petersen, who picked up a niggle during the U19 promotion/relegation match against Border last week.

“For the next three weeks, they will then participate in various team activities, including, field training sessions, gym sessions and team meetings,” he said.

Crous said selection for the Dubai leg of the HSBC 7s World Series tournament would only be made late in November, before the team departed, and the selection for the South Africa leg would be made on the team’s return to South Africa in first week of December.

“We are extremely proud of Shakes and Sergeal for being called up to the SA Sevens training squad and have the utmost confidence in them. They have both shone on the field this year, having played at Super Rugby level as well as in the respective ABSA U21 and ABSA U19 competitions,” he said.
