The Leopards scored 12 points in the final five minutes of a crucial ABSA Currie Cup Promotion/Relegation match to beat the SWD Eagles 32-28 in George and retain their position in SA’s premier domestic competition.

With only five minutes left the Eagles still led 32-16 and looked set to move up to the bigger league but two quick tries by the Leopards in less than four minutes crushed the Eagles hopes.

Last week’s loss of 37-22 in Potchefstroom meant the Eagles had to win with a bonus point and make sure the Leopards fail to score a bonus point. That is exactly what Eagles captain Bevin Fortuin and team set out to do from the start and through strong defense and positive attacking rugby they almost did just that.

After two games both teams had 6 log points but the Leopards came out top thanks to a nine point difference in points for and against.
