Loftus Versfeld will once again play host to the Vodacom Blue Bulls’ Prestige Rugby Evening that will see 18 high school and two primary school teams battle it out on Tuesday, 7 March 2017.

Now in its second year, the tournament has proven to be a highlight on the schoolboy rugby calendar that sees schools come from near and far to compete against one another.

The Prestige Rugby Evening is proudly brought to you by the Blue Bulls Company, and the evening has been tailored to give the players a unique experience. In order to ensure running rugby, no kicking for points is permitted while each team will be allowed to use a maximum of 26 players and rolling substitutions will be implemented.

Each team will be mentored by a Vodacom Bulls player that will interact with the team throughout the evening, offering the players guidance and motivation.

Man of the Match awards will be decided by the Vodacom Bulls coaching staff including the head coach, Nollis Marais, and the Player of the Evening will be awarded a Vodacom Blue Bulls contract [T&Cs apply].

According to Werner de Beer, Blue Bulls Company: Coordinator High Performance, Operations, Schools & Amateur Rugby, the tournament has already shown immense growth while serving the Vodacom Bulls as a talent identification tool.

“The Prestige Rugby Evening may have only been in existence for a year but we have already received immense interest from schools around the country. This year will see several schools from the Griffons region compete against schools from the Blue Bulls, Leopards and Lions regions,” said De Beer.

“The evening provides players with the opportunity to play on one of South Africa’s iconic rugby fields, Loftus Versfeld while giving the High-Performance department an opportunity to identify talent that they may not always have access to as players do slip through the cracks,” De Beer added.
