South Africa’s Minister of Sport and Recreation, the Rt Hon Fikile Mbalula, on Friday afternoon handed out the Springboks’ jerseys ahead of the second Test in the Castle Incoming Tour against England in Johannesburg.

The Springboks take on England at Coca-Cola Park at 17h00 on Saturday. The Boks won the first Test in Durban last week by 22-17.

Minister Mbalula had a strong message for Jean de Villiers and his team, urging them not only to keep up the good work from last weekend’s victory in the first Test, but also to always remember their task as leading South Africans.

“Sport, and rugby in particular, is such a huge part of our nation,” said Minister Mbalula.

“Jean, you and your team have the opportunity to put smiles on the faces of ordinary South Africans and to help further unite our wonderful country. I urge you to use this chance and make the most of what you have.

“The Springbok brand is very strong in South African and with it comes a lot of responsibility. We are right behind you as you take on England on Saturday and we know you can repeat the victory from last weekend.”

De Villiers thanked the minister for taking time out from his busy schedule to spend time with the Springboks.

“We can assure you we know what is expected of us and we will never give anything less than 100% for our country,” said De Villiers.

“As we’re playing on Youth Day, it’s a reminder of the role we can play as ambassadors for South Africa and what we can do to make our country an even better place.”
