Two changes to the 22-man match squad, both the result of a single injury, are all that MTN Golden Lions coach Johan Ackermann has come up with for the Absa Currie Cup match against the Sharks in Durban on Saturday.

The injury to No 8 Derick Minnie has resulted in a start for Warren Whiteley, while the latter’s place on the bench will in turn be taken by Jaco Kriel. Minnie, who was sidelined during the scintillating win against the Free State Cheetahs last weekend, will be out of action for about six weeks because of the ligament damage sustained in that match.

It will be Whiteley’s first start since he was injured four months ago. Ironically, with his injury which was also due a knee problem, Whiteley was the man who replaced Minnie last week to thereby make his first appearance for the Lions in just over four months.

The MTN Golden Lions team to play the Sharks is:
Andries Coetzee, JR Esterhuizen, Lionel Mapoe, Waylon Murray, Anthony Volmink, Butch James, Michael Bondesio, Derick Minnie, Josh Strauss, Cobus Grobbelaar, Franco van der Merwe, Hendrik Roodt, Jacobie Adriaanse, Callie Visagie, JC Janse van Rensburg (capt.).

Replacements: Francois du Toit, CJ van der Linde, Willie Britz, Warren Whiteley, Ross Cronje, Guy Cronje, Ruan Combrinck.
