NSW the dominant state on Day One of Youth National Sevens Championships

Loading...McGillivray Oval, Perth played host in one of the Youth National Sevens Championships for Boys and Girls, where the temperature soared to 35 degrees as the future stars of Australian rugby battled it out for national bragging rights.
Both the NSW Blue Boys and NSW Girls sides went through the day undefeated, as well as the Queensland Reds Girls team, putting in fantastic performances throughout the day.
In the Boys Championship NSW Blue, Queensland Red, Victoria and Western Australia all progress to the Cup Final knockout stages, while in the Girls NSW Blue, Western Australia, QLD Red and Australian Capital Territory also move into the Cup Finals.
The remaining six teams from both Pools still have plenty to play for at McGillivray Oval on day two as they try to progress to the Plate Final. That will see NSW White, National Indigenous, Northern Territory, ACT, QLD White and South Australia in the Boys Championship and QLD White, National Indigenous, Northern Territory, NSW White, South Australia and Victoria in the Girls.
ARU Pathway Services Manager, Rugby Sevens, Dale Roberson: “It’s been fantastic so far, I’ve been really impressed with the standard in both Pools across the day.”
“WA has been really impressive in both the boys and the girls, playing on their home turf and I’m looking forward to seeing them progress to the next stage.”
Roberson emphasised how important this Championship is to Australian Rugby Sevens and says that it’s essentially the start of the Pathway To Gold.
“This is a huge tournament for us, it’s the starting piece of our pathway for the elite level of this age group, looking towards Youth Commonwealth Games, Youth Olympics and then progressing into our development teams and hopefully national teams in the future.”
