ABSA Currie Cup LogoThe Barloworld Toyota Pumas fullback Johan Jackson was on Tuesday found guilty of foul play and suspended from all forms of rugby for two weeks at a SARU judicial hearing in Cape Town.

Jackson was cited under Law 10.4 (J) for lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving a player into the ground. He was cited after he allegedly lifted Xerox Lions fullback Burton Francis from the ground, tipped and then turned him past the horizontal. The incident occurred during the 32nd minute of the game. The Barloworld Toyota Pumas defeated the Xerox Lions 34-27.

SARU judicial officer Peter Ingwersen considered evidence from the Barloworld Toyota Pumas fullback, video recordings and heard submissions from Jackson’s representative. He noted that the incident represented a lower entry category tackle and recommended a three week suspension.

Ingwersen however reduced the recommended sanction to two weeks after considering Jackson’s efforts to mitigate his actions and due to his unblemished record as a player.

As a result Jackson is suspended for two games. He has the right to appeal.
