Scarlets secured the maximum points available in the Guinness PRO14 clash against Southern Kings at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday afternoon with head coach Wayne Pivac happy with the five points.

Four tries from Tadhg Beirne, Ioan Nicholas, Werner Kruger and Dan Jones saw Scarlets secure a 34-30 victory over Southern Kings in what was an enthralling encounter as well as secure the try bonus points.

Speaking after the game head coach Wayne Pivac said; “The reality is we wanted to come away with five points from this tour and we got five after the first game. “We go in to that match against Cheetahs with nothing to lose and everything to gain.

We’ll certainly be going there to win it but we know it’s going to be a difficult assignment.”

Reflecting on the victory Pivac said; “We expected a spirited and attack focused game form the Kings and they didn’t disappoint. They carved us up a few times with their running and support play. I thought their offloading today was exceptional and we didn’t deal with that, particularly in the first half. We certainly didn’t take care of their support runners and they hurt us.

“I’m certainly pleased; not only did we come here and get the win but ended up with a bonus point. That was the perfect result but not the perfect performance. There’s plenty to work on ahead of Saturday but our young guys got a lot of confidence from that, which is very pleasing.

“Most of that side played against Benetton a couple of weeks back and put in a spirited performance there aswell. We’ve got a good spirit in the group at the moment and there are a lot of talented young guys coming through. They’ve been training well together, we thought we’d go well enough to get the win but we also knew it was going to be a tough encounter with obviously so many of our guys out and so many Kings players we didn’t know much about.”

Scarlets take on Cheetahs on Saturday 2nd December, kick off 5.35pm (UK) with the game live on S4C.
