Former Free State captain and Blue Bulls coach Pote Human has packed his bags and is heading down to Kimberley where he will take up the reigns as the Griquas’ forwards coach for the remainder of the 2011 season under current acting head coach Abrie Minnie.

Human is leaving Pretoria behind and will join up with the Griquas squad on Monday ahead of their 2011 Currie Cup campaign. Human has officially been appointed as forwards coach for the remainder of the 2011 season.

Rugby15.co.za can however reliably confirm that Human has signed a 3-year deal with the GWK Griquas and will be their new head coach from the 2012 season onwards.

The Griquas had to start looking for a new head coach last year after then coach Dawie Theron was appointed coach of the National u/20 side, also known as the Baby Boks. Theron and his squad depart for Italy on 4 June where they will compete in the 2011 IRB Junior World Champs.

Human recently returned from a 2-year coaching stint in Japan after which he took up the role of Director of rugby at Hoërskool Garsfontein in Pretoria. Along with Heyneke Meyer, Human was also part of the Tuks team that made it to final of the 2011 Varsity Cup. Human was also the coach of the Blue Bulls’ Currie Cup side in 2006 when they shared the spoils with the Cheetahs and part of the victorious 2007 Super 14 Bulls side.

Earlier it was specualted that Pumas coach Jimmy Stonehouse got the job after he alledgedly told some of the Pumas players that he is heading down to Kimberley to take up a coaching job. This was later denied by Stonehouse himself but he has not ruled out a move away from the Pumas.

Human will be a very valuable asset to the Griquas and Rugby15 wishes him well with his new challenge.
