The Buildcorp NRC Grand Final will be a night-time affair for the second time in three seasons with this year’s decider to be played on Saturday, October 22, with a 7.45pm AEDST kick off.

The match will feature in a prime-time television slot following the third and final Bledisloe Cup clash between the Qantas Wallabies and New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland. Both matches will be broadcast LIVE on FOX SPORTS in a mouth-watering double-header for Rugby fans.

The venue and combatants for the 2016 Grand Final will be confirmed following the semi-final matches to be played on October 15 and 16.

Current table-toppers NSW Country Eagles will host one of those fixtures after locking in a home semi-final despite their upset loss to Queensland Country on Saturday. The other semi-final will be hosted by Sydney Rays, who are also safe in the top two after their Round 6 trouncing of UC Vikings. The venues for the two semi-finals are still to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Western Sydney Rams’ shock Horan-Little Shield triumph over Melbourne Rising on Sunday kept them within reach of an unlikely semi-finals berth, while UC Vikings are the only other side out of the current top four who remain in the hunt for finals action.

NSW Country Eagles, Sydney Rays, Perth Spirit and Melbourne Rising make up the top four ahead of this weekend’s final round.

ARU CEO Bill Pulver said: “The 2016 Buildcorp NRC has been an incredible competition. The quality of Rugby has risen each year, and now in its third year we’ve seen the most competitive season ever in 2016.

“If you look at some of the results over the past couple of rounds in particular, it is impossible to predict who we might see in the Grand Final on October 22. We’ve seen the Horan-Little Shield change hands four times in the past five weeks, which only happened once in its inaugural season last year.

“We have six teams still in contention for the four semi-final places heading into the final round this weekend and the stage is set for a huge finish to the season.

“With the Buildcorp NRC Grand Final kicking off immediately after the Qantas Wallabies take on the All Blacks over in New Zealand, fans are in for a superb night of Rugby.”
