Prinsloo brought the ‘Boom’ to Vodacom SupeRugby

Loading...MONDAY, 19 MAY 2014 – South African franchises experienced a successful Vodacom SupeRugby weekend in general while Toyota Cheetahs eighthman Boom Prinsloo was one of the star players in Round 14.
The livewire loose forward was instrumental in his side’s victory over the 2013 Vodacom SupeRugby finalists, the Brumbies, and also featured prominently in two of the Vodacom Rugby Stats App categories.
Prinsloo made 18 carries in the match – the most for the weekend – with Ben McCalman (Force), Jeremy Thrush (Hurricanes), Mike Harris (Reds) and Nasi Manu of the Highlanders following on 17 apiece.
He was also tied in second place in the Clean Breaks category with five other players including DHL Stormers’ utility back Damian de Allende with two, while Rob Horne of the Waratahs made the most clean breaks with three.
Stormers lock Michael Rhodes also made a valuable contribution to his side’s 24-8 victory over the Western Force in Cape Town.
He made 18 tackles to take top spot in this category and is followed by Beau Robinson (Reds) with 17, while James Horwill (Reds) and Joseph Wheeler of the Highlanders are equal on 16.
Cheetahs prop Coenie Oosthuizen and Deon Fourie of the Stormers are level on 14 tackles apiece.
Rhodes also shares top spot in the Lineouts won on own throw category with Cheetahs lock Teboho Mohoje with the 10 they made in their respective matches.
In third place the Cell C Sharks’ Stephan Lewies took nine lineout balls, while Elliot Dixon of the Highlanders and the Lions’ Warren Whitely both took six.
Meanwhile, Lions loose foreward Jaco Kriel won the most turnovers with his four steals, with Matt Hodgson (Force) and Shane Christie (Highlanders) making three each.
Lions wing Anthonie Volmink, Anthony Fainga’a (Reds), Duane Vermeulen (Stormers) and Francois Steyn (Sharks) all won two turnovers.
Cheetahs flyhalf Johan Goosen scored 22 points, the second most of the weekend behind Colin Slade of the Crusaders, who contributed 25 points for his side.
