Former Afrikaans Hoër Seunskool pupil Dawie Steyn has signed a contract to play for the Vodacom Bulls and Vodacom Blue Bulls in 2012 and 2013, the Blue Bulls Company (Pty) Ltd has announced on Friday.

The powerhouse prop is currently playing at the Ford Pumas, where he impressed during the Absa Currie Cup with his performances as loose head, scrumming strongly, carrying the ball with authority and showing good work ethic off the ball and on defence.

The 27 year old Steyn was born in Pretoria, was schooled there and attended the University of Pretoria where he played Super Bowl rugby and represented the Blue Bulls Amateur side before embarking on a professional rugby career at the Pumas in 2008 and where he has played since.

The 120kg player admits that it is a dream come true to finally sign on as a Loftus Versfeld player.

“It has been a dream of mine all my life. Make no mistake, I loved my time at the Pumas and will always be very appreciative to them for the way my career could develop under coach Jimmy Stonehouse, but this is where I have always wanted to be. I believe I can contribute to the effort of the Bulls and Blue Bulls in becoming the top side in the country again,” Steyn said.

Commenting on the development Vodacom Bulls coach Frans Ludeke said he was impressed by Steyn’s performances in recent seasons.

“Dawie will add depth to our front row and we have all seen the importance of having that. He has all the attributes associated with Bulls front rowers and should add real value to our effort. I would also like to thank the Pumas for their professionalism in the way they handled the release of Steyn to us.”
