Final Score 05 – 27

The Pumas Women’s team kick started their four match, Absa Currie Cup B-Division campaign last Saturday with a home encounter against the Leopards in White River.

From the start of the match the intentions of the Leopards were clearly to play running rugby, with awesome interplay between forwards and backs. The Leopards dominated in the scrums with a slightly heavier pack of forwards.

Six tries were scored by the Leopards in the first half to leave the score at 27-0 at the half time break. The scorers were: Ruweida Arends, Portia Mosadi, Randy Nkotswana, Nokubonga Siko, Louisa Potwana and Noxolo Jam-Jam. Aretha Mabombo was successful with one conversion.

According to the Pumas coach, Petrus Sambo, the Pumas found their rhythm in the second half. “I think the girls were slightly intimidated in the first couple of minutes by their well composed opponents, however they showed character and fought back hard in the second half.”

The only points of the second half was a try scored by the Pumas fly half, Silindile Nyembe to close the game at 05 – 27.

The next match for the Pumas Women’s team will be on August 15th vs. the Limpopo Blue Bulls in Polokwane.
