Round 17 of Queensland Premier Rugby kicks off tomorrow, with a top of the table clash between GPS and University of Queensland headlining this weekend’s action.

The clash will see the Gallopers and the Red Heavies contest both the Welsby Cup and the Halley Appleby Memorial Trophy, and grassroots Rugby fans can tune into the LIVE stream of the match via both www.redsrugby.com.au and Facebook LIVE if they can’t make it to Yoku Road.

The match will be an emotional encounter for all involved, as both clubs pay tribute to the memory of Appleby and the lasting impact he has had on the Rugby community in Queensland. The importance of the match was highlighted on Fox Sports’ program ‘Kick & Chase’ earlier this week, view the segment here: http://bit.ly/2tdYBJr

The clash between Wests and Brothers, which will potentially decide fourth place on the ladder, will also be LIVE streamed via www.redsrugby.com.au.

Souths will play their last match of the year, having been delt the Round 18 bye, against Bond University on the Gold Coast, and Norths will host Sunnybank at Hugh Courtney Oval.

Queensland Premier Rugby – Round 17 Team Lists

GPS V UNIVERSITY OF QUEENSLAND | GAME OF THE ROUND BROADCAST – Yoku Road, 3:20pm

GPS welcome the Red Heavies to Yoku Road this Saturday for the Game of the Round. It will be one of the biggest days on the Queensland Premier Rugby calendar with both the Welsby Cup and the Halley Appleby Memorial Trophy on the line. Both teams continue to distance themselves from the rest of the competition, as GPS narrowly defeated the Dragons 31-27 and UQ ran away with a 37-12 win over Easts. The pair first met early in the season, where UQ defeated GPS 28-15 back in Round 4. With two pieces of silverware on the line and the finals just around the corner, the stage is set for a spectacle at Yoku Road. WESTS V BROTHERS | LIVE STREAM – Sci-Fleet Stadium, Kick-off: 5:00pm

This weekend, Brothers will take on the Bulldogs at the Kennel. The sixth-placed Brethren
have a golden opportunity to sneak into the top four with a win over Wests this weekend.
The two teams first met in Round 2 when the Bulldogs went down 36-20, but since then
the Bulldogs have bounced back and have claimed the scalps of both GPS and Sunnybank
who sit above them. After securing a 46-31 win over Souths last week, Brothers will use
that momentum to pursue an opportunity to be in the finals, while Wests look to survive the next two weeks for an opportunity to feature in the top four. If you can’t make it out to
Sci-Fleet Stadium, be sure to catch the game via the live stream on redsrugby.com.au.

teams met in Round 4, the Magpies came out on top securing a 32-12 win. Although both
sides cannot make finals, Souths and Bond have delivered some strong performances throughout the year and have both knocked off top four contenders. Bond’s one-point win over Brothers was a highlight of their season while Souths have claimed the scalps of both
Wests and Easts. This weekend will be the Magpies’ final match of the season given they have the bye in Round 18.

NORTHS V SUNNYBANK | Hugh Courtney Oval, kick-off: 3:45pm

This weekend, Sunnybank head to Hugh Courtney Oval to take on Norths. Last weekend,
Sunnybank suffered a narrow 31-27 loss to GPS, while Norths rested for the bye. Back in
Round 2, these two faced off and Sunnybank ran away with a 36-17 win at Oldmac Oval. Since then, the Dragons have battled their way to seven wins to sit in third spot while Norths sit in eighth with six wins.
