Queensland Rugby Union releases Dave McDuling to take up contract with Durban-based Sharks

Loading...Queensland Rugby Union has released St.George Queensland Reds lock Dave McDuling from the remainder of his 2015 contract, to allow him to join the Durban-based Sharks ahead of their Currie Cup preparations.
McDuling has signed a one-year contract with the Sharks for the 2016 Super Rugby season, but requested an early release from the Reds to allow him to join the side ahead of the 2015 Currie Cup.
While he was born in Sydney, McDuling’s father is originally from South Africa and they still have close relatives in the country.
McDuling joined the Reds academy in 2011. He suffered back-to-back knee injuries in 2012 and 2013 but his perseverance paid off when he finally made his Super Rugby debut last year.
He has played 12 times for the Reds over the last two seasons, after making his debut against the Crusaders in May 2014.
McDuling also captained McInnes Wilson Lawyers Brisbane City to its championship win in the inaugural season of the Buildcorp National Rugby Championship last year and said he would cherish his time at Ballymore.
“It’s an exciting time for my family given our background in South Africa,” he said.
“I have loved being part of the Queensland Reds, but I feel the time is right for me to challenge myself in a new environment and Rugby culture. It was a privilege to represent Queensland and I will leave with many fond memories. I wish the Reds, Brisbane City and the entire Queensland Rugby community all the best in the future.”
