Road Safety Perth Spirit named for NRC opener

Loading...The Road Safety Perth Spirit have named a powerful side to take on the Melbourne Rising on Father’s Day, Sunday, 3 September at McGillivray Oval as the men in black and gold kick off their title defense.
The side features 10 players that played in last season’s grand final victory including captain Michael Ruru and vice captain Anaru Rangi.
In the huge boost for the Western Australian side, Wallaby squad members Bill Meakes, Tetera Faulkner and Curtis Rona have been released to run out for the Spirit. With WA product, Curtis Rona set to make his National Rugby Championship (NRC) debut in the state colors.
10 players are in line to make their Road Safety Perth Spirit debuts, including Chance Peni, second-row duo Matt Philip and Richard Arnold and Future Force Foundation members James Verity-Amm, Sama Malolo, Ben Grant and 2017 PG Hampshire winner, Brendan Owen.
Road Safety Perth Spirit Head Coach Kevin Foote said the team is determined to kick the season off on a winning note in front of the hill.
“We are really pumped for the weekend and the squad has been training well,” he said. “Obviously we are running out a pretty strong squad and we really want to kick the campaign off on a good note and show what we are about.”
“It is important to start the season strong. I was involved in 2014 and 2016 and we let some early games slip and then had to travel. We really want to give the fans something to cheer about, play well at home and make the most of our home ground advantage.”
The Spirit will begin their 2017 National Rugby Championship campaign at 3:00 PM on Sunday, 3 September at McGillivray Oval, Mt Claremont. Entry is FREE all season so come down and ‘Fill The Hill’.
