Free State Rugby announced that the position of Director of Rugby and of Head Coach of the Cheetahs, in the persons of Rory Duncan and Franco Smith, will switch from Monday, 17 July 2017.  Franco Smith will be the new Director of Rugby and Rory Duncan the new head coach of the Toyota Cheetahs and Toyota Free State Cheetahs.

This move has been done in the best interests of Free State Rugby and in order to allow Franco to continue to maintain his involvement with the Springboks.  Franco Smith will lead the Rugby Department of Free State Rugby and specifically focus on coaching and the development of junior coaches and players.

Rory Duncan is very talented and in fact very passionate about coaching.

“The collaboration between the two is impressive and very positive,” said Harold Verster, Managing Director of the Free State Cheetahs (Pty) Ltd. said.
