The final round of the 2015 Vodacom SupeRugby saw four players from the South African franchises making it into the Stats XV.

All four players in the team selected based on statistics on the Vodacom Rugby App were among the forwards.

The loose trio are made up wholly of South Africans with Cell C Sharks flanker Marcell Coetzee, Vodacom Bulls eighthman Pierre Spies and his team-mate Jacques du Plessis dominating the stats.

Sharks lock Marco Wentzel, who has been a constant feature in the Stats XV this season was once again one of the top-ranked second-rowers.

Players earn points according to their positions and the statistics taken from the Vodacom Rugby App. While a prop will certainly get points for running 50 metres to score a try, he will get even more points for doing what he is on the field to do – win scrums.

Playing in his final match for the Bulls, Spies made a total of 16 carries, making 56 metres to beat three defenders and make a clean break.

Spies added to the scoreboard with his try against the Toyota Cheetahs while he also made five tackles and won two lineouts on his side’s own throw.

Coetzee was a defensive rock for the Sharks in their victory over the DHL Stormers where he won three turnovers, collected two loose balls and executed 10 tackles. On attack he made 15 carries to make 27 metres beating one defender.

The towering Du Plessis was instrumental in attack for the Bulls where he made 16 carries for a total of 77 metres, beating six defenders and making a clean break.

Wentzel’s lineout aptitude earned him a place in the Stats XV with the 11 balls he won on his own throw while he also stole two on the opposition’s throw. He also made three carries and nine tackles.
