Following a meeting between the South African Rugby Union (SARU) and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 18 June, it is evident that SARU has made positive strides all round in administering their national federation.
Amongst other issues, the meeting touched on the Constitutional compliance and governance of SARU and its competition structure and development programmes, which also provided SASCOC with SARU’s transformation agenda, proposed target dates and implementation milestones set by the organisation.

Says SASCOC CEO, Tubby Reddy: “We are pleased with the submissions made by SARU and we took notice of the tremendous amount of work being done by this National Federation around the country. This is contrary to the popular perception that SARU has no transformation plans and no transformation process.

“We received figures to substantiate SARU’s transformation agenda and achievements thus far as well as their footprint around the country.”

“They are clearly focused on creating opportunities for all the people of our country.”

“However, we noted that there is still a lack of transformation in the Springbok team hence the perception that SARU isn’t transformed or has no intention to transform.”

“It’s clear that over the last 20 years in a democratic SARU and in all sport in general, we have not sufficiently addressed the implementation process, to realise the transformation agenda,” added Mr Reddy.

From the presentation made, SARU will and can be judged by the milestones set in their transformation implementation plans up to and including 2020.
