Sharks Club XV claim APC Central title

Loading...The Sharks Club XV on Friday claimed the Central Amateur Provincial Championship title in style with an emphatic 62-12 victory against the Griffons in Margate.
The final day’s play proved to be thrilling with the KZN Wildebeest thumping Griquas Rural 36-5 to win the Plate final, while Griffons Rural and Free State Rural played to a 24-24 draw in the opening matches.
Free State, meanwhile, registered a narrow 39-35 victory against Griquas Central to finish the tournament in third place. But the Sharks Club XV stole the spotlight as they cruised to a 50-point victory to win the title.
The first half of the final was competitive with the KwaZulu-Natal team working their way into a 22-12 lead at the break. But they ran riot on attack in the second half, while they denied the Griffons any further points to finish the tournament on a memorable note.
The KZN Wildebeest also broke away in the second half against Griquas Rural in the Plate Final after a 17-5 half-time lead, with the side scoring 19 points after the break to inflate their score to 36, while they also managed to deny the opposition from scoring further points.
Free State, meanwhile, started their clash strongly against Griquas Central and led 27-7, but the Kimberley side showed their fighting spirit in the second half and scored an encouraging 28 points to inflate their score to 35. However, they were unable to stop the Free State from adding to their score and had to settle for a narrow 39-35 defeat.
In the seventh and eighth place-playoff Griffons Rural edged their way into a 17-13 halftime lead, but with both teams putting their bodies on the line for a victory, the clash ended in a 24-24 draw.

Griffons Rural 24 – 24 Free State Rural (7th/8th place playoff)
Griquas Rural 5 – 36 KZN Wildebeest (Plate Final)
Free State 39 – 35 Griquas Central (3rd/4th place playoff)
