The Sharks Club XV will have their sights set on back-to-back Central Amateur Provincial titles on Friday in Kimberley after booking their place in the final of the tournament against Free State Central.

The Sharks Club XV defeated Griquas Central 44-13 in the second round of matches on Wednesday, while Free State Central pipped Griffons Central 34-33 to advance to the Cup Final on Friday.

In the other matches Griffons Rural beat Griquas Rural 19-8 and the KwaZulu-Natal Wildebeest Rural registered a convincing 41-15 victory against Free State Rural.

The Sharks Club XV dominated from the outset against Griquas Central and took a 25-13 lead at the break. They continued to stamp their authority in the second half and stretched their try total to five, while they defended like demons to deny the hosts any further points.

In stark contrast, Free State Central staged a dramatic second-half comeback against Griffons Central for their victory. Griffons Central struck first and managed to work their way into a 21-6 lead at the break. However, Free State Central bounced back with intent and scored an impressive 28 points compliments of five tries, which allowed them to outscore Griffons Central five tries to four and secure the narrow victory.

The first half between Griffons Rural and Griquas Rural was tight as the teams threw everything at one another. But Griffons Rural stepped up their game in the second half and capitalised on their point-scoring chances, while they tightened up their defence for a 19-8 victory.

The KwaZulu-Natal Wildebeest Rural, meanwhile, overcame a closely fought first half against Free State Rural, for their victory. But their solid attack allowed them to out-score Free State Rural six tries to two for their 41-15 win.

In Friday’s final round, the Sharks Club XV will meet Free State Central in a thrilling Cup Final at 10h50, while Griquas Central will take on Griffons Central in the 3rd/4th place playoff.
