The Grade 11 pupils from schools as far afield as Barberton got the chance to interact with Warren Whiteley, Oupa Mahoje, Jaco Kriel, Jesse Kriel and Bongi Mbonambi. The assembly kicked off with the players answering questions, sharing their favourite memories from school and giving some valuable tips about how pupils can reach their dreams and perhaps one day wear the famous green and gold.
“I really hope you guys enjoy this day. I think some of my best times were making memories with my schoolmates. Time flies so fast and I think you guys should enjoy everything you have right now because you’ll definitely be looking back on it in a few years’ time,” said Mahoje.
Springbok loose forward and Lions captain Warren Whiteley shared some characteristic words of wisdom with the pupils.
“Never be afraid to follow your dreams, no matter what anyone says. It can be anything from wanting to be a sportsman, to being a businessman or a teacher. We all play a massive role in society and have a responsibility to impact people in our lives,” Whiteley said.
There was plenty of laughter too, as the Boks shared some behind-the-scenes info about some of their fellow teammates. 10 lucky pupils were given free tickets from the players themselves, to attend the Rugby Championship match against Argentina on Saturday.
The assembly ended with the players and pupils gathering together for a group photo on the stadium stands.
If you haven’t yet got your ticket for Saturday’s epic clash, head to computicket.com or any Computicket outlet to book your seat. Prices start from R100.
