Percy Montgomery takes the plunge

Legendary former Springbok Percy Montgomery took a leap of faith ahead of Saturday night’s Vodacom Tri-Nations test with a jump off Auckland’s Sky Tower this morning. The Springbok kicking coach and former full-back says the SkyJump is definitely a must do for anyone coming to Auckland.

“It’s intense but I’ve never experienced anything like this before and it’s so awesome seeing the view. I’ll definitely do it again during Rugby World Cup,” he says.

During the SkyJump – one of the world’s longest land based adventure jumps – Percy fell 192 metres in 11 seconds.

Montgomery is in Auckland this week with the Springbok team as they prepare for the Tri-Nations battle against the All Blacks at Eden Park this Saturday.

Tourism Auckland Chief Executive, Graeme Osborne, says it’s great to have such a high profile person experience this major Auckland visitor attraction in the lead up to Rugby World Cup 2011.

“With Auckland set to welcome thousands of South Africans next September, offshore exposure like this helps to raise awareness of what our region has to offer,” he says.

The Springbok team had an open training session this afternoon at Onewa Domain on Auckland’s North Shore, where they’ll be based during Rugby World Cup 2011.
