Three Springboks that picked up injuries in Saturday’s second Test against England in Johannesburg will be assessed in the coming days before a decision on their availability for the third and final match of the Castle Incoming Tour will be taken.
The Springboks clinched the series at Coca-Cola Park when they won the second Test by 36-27. They arrived in Port Elizabeth earlier on Sunday for the final Test at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.
Lock Juandré Kruger (neck), flank Willem Alberts (knee) and fullback Pat Lambie (ankle) all left the field during the second Test.
Kruger went for precautionary x-rays and a scan on Saturday evening and according to team doctor Craig Roberts everything is clear.
Alberts, who injured the medial collateral ligaments in his right knee, as well as Lambie, who twisted his left ankle, will be assessed in the coming days.
“They will be treated by our medical team in the next few days and we will decide by Wednesday, when we name the team, whether they will play or not,” said Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer.
Furthermore, inside centre Frans Steyn has not travelled with the squad to Port Elizabeth, as he is getting married on Saturday and is not available for the third Test.
A decision on possible replacements will be taken at a later stage.
