Springboks looking for second Rugby Championship win in Argentina

The Springboks will play their second match of the 2014 Castle Lager Rugby Championship campaign in Argentina, like they did in 2013 when they host traveled to South America. This time however, the test will be played in Salta. SANZAR – in conjunction with Opta Sports – is pleased to deliver match stats on this clash.

o South Africa have won each of their last three, and eight of their last nine Tests away from home.
o The Springboks have scored at least one try in each of their last 20 away Tests, as well as 14 in their last five matches on away territory.
o This will be the 19th meeting between these nations and Argentina are still searching for their first victory (L17, D1).
o Argentina have lost 12 and won none of their 13 matches in this tournament but three of their five meetings against the Springboks have been settled by a difference of seven or fewer points (including a draw).
o Overall, six of the Pumas’ 13 Rugby Championship fixtures have been settled by a difference of a converted try or less, while the other seven have all been by 15+ points.
o South Africa beat Argentina 13-6 in Pretoria last weekend, their lowest points haul in a single match since they lost 21-11 to New Zealand in September 2012. The Boks had scored at least 15 points in each of their 20 Tests in between.
o Argentina managed five more defenders beaten (13) than South Africa (8) in their round one defeat at Loftus Versfield.
o Marcell Coetzee completed all 14 tackles he attempted last weekend, while nobody else on the field managed to hit double figures for attempted hits.
o Ruan Pienaar, who scored the only try of the game (and indeed round) last weekend, could earn his 78th cap and move clear as the ninth most-capped Springbok of all-time, moving ahead of Mark Andrews.
o Argentina’s last home win over a tier one nation came against France in June 2012, a run of 12 matches without a victory.
o Argentina have averaged 17 points scored in their last six home matches, scoring exactly 17 in four of them. They have lost all six.
