Vodacom Blue Bulls flank Deon Stegmann was suspended for one week on Wednesday for striking a player with his elbow in their Absa Currie Cup Premier Division clash against the EP Kings last Friday.

His Vodacom Blue Bulls counterpart, hooker Bongi Mbonambi, meanwhile, was cleared of further sanction after receiving a yellow card in the match for charging into a ruck without using his arms.

Stegmann and Mbonambi both appeared before a SARU judicial committee in Pretoria on Tuesday after being sent to the sin-bin in their clash in Port Elizabeth.

Stegmann received a red card in the 69th minute of the match for contravening Law 10.4 (a), which states that a player must not strike an opponent with the fist or arm, including the elbow, shoulder, head or knee. The judicial officer Advocate Tokkie van Zyl on Tuesday night reserved his judgement on the incident but announced on Wednesday that Stegmann was suspended for a week.

Van Zyl also ruled that the yellow card Xerox Golden Lions Under-21 lock Ramone Samuels received for contravening Law 10.4(a) in their clash against DHL Western Province last Saturday was a sufficient sanction.

DHL Western Province Under-21 flyhalf Robert du Preez will appear at a SARU disciplinary hearing in Cape Town on Wednesday after being for cited for lifting a player in a tackle and dropping him to the ground in the match at Ellis Park, which was in breach of Law 10.4 (j).
