SWIEL TO REMAIN IN ENGLAND

Loading...Harlequins Rugby in the UK have signed flyhalf / fullback Tim Swiel from the Cell C Sharks on a full-time basis after he spent the Northern Hemisphere rugby season with the club from mid-2014.
He was signed as a junior from the ranks of Western Province age group rugby, but played senior rugby for the Cell C Sharks last year in his first season in Durban, gaining three Vodacom Super Rugby starts and a further three appearances off the bench.
When he left The Sharks on an initial four month stay at Harlequins, he explained that, “Due to injury, I did not get a lot of game-time during the Absa Currie Cup and both my coaches at The Sharks and I agreed that regular game-time during this off season would enhance my preparation for Super Rugby.”
However, he has impressed sufficiently at Harlequins for them to off him a full-time contract and The Sharks have been granted permission to remain with his new club.
Commenting on the announcement, Conor O’Shea, Harlequins Director of Rugby, said: “Tim made a real impact in incredibly trying circumstances whilst with us on loan earlier in the season and we are delighted that The Sharks have granted him his release to come back to us on a full time basis. He is a young player with a huge amount of potential and also someone who showed mentally that he is able to cope with anything thrown at him.”
The Sharks CEO, John Smit, added words of encouragement to the English-qualified 21 year-old: “We would like to wish Tim everything of the best as he takes up a new, full-time contract with Harlequins.
“It is always disappointing to lose good, young players, but he leaves with our blessing as he looks to continue his career abroad.”
