The Toyota Cheetahs announced on Wednesday that their eagerly-awaited Vodacom Super Rugby match against the MTN Lions on Easter Saturday (7 April) has been moved from Welkom to the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The move will allow the Toyota Cheetahs to accommodate more of their supporters, but has been made primarily because of concerns around the North West Stadium’s ability to safely host a capacity crowd, said franchise MD, Harold Verster.

“We have been working with the local stakeholders for a number of weeks on the relevant safety issues,” he said. “Today we decided, after much deliberation, not to host the match at Welkom’s North West Stadium”.

“We have decided the wisest course was to leave nothing to chance and move the match to Bloemfontein.”

Verster said that supporters who had already bought tickets for the match would be able to obtain a full refund from Computicket outlets or the offices of the Griffons Rugby Union on presentation of their match tickets.

Tickets for the clash of the cats in Bloemfontein will be available through the usual outlets.  Fans can buy tickets for the match from the Free State Stadium ticket office or Computicket channels.
