The Vodacom Blue Bulls are well aware of the importance of their fans. Some of the players joined a team from Absa and Saru to spend some quality time with eager boys and girls from the Lehlabile Secondary School.

Monday morning’s assembly was one of sheer delight as pupils were treated to a question and answer session with some of the talented Vadacom Blue Bulls players including: Cornel Hess; Louis Fouché; Travis Ismaiel; and Arno Botha, who addressed the students with the poise of a future leader while sharing a really inspirational and motivational talk. Also joining the four current players was the legendary John Mametsa, former Bulls and Blue Bulls winger. Mametsa was the first black South African to have appeared in 100 Currie Cup games.

The visit was also attended by Espresso Morning Show from SABC 3, Beeld, SuperSport Blitz and You Magazine.

With the focus of the morning being on the history of the Absa Currie Cup and how times have changed, the players highlighted the differences in playing and practicing in the past versus today. They were also keen to share their personal views and experiences regarding the competition.

The players were quick to relate their sporting goals and the discipline it takes to get there to that of the students studies. They also took the opportunity to encourage the learners to support their local teams and attend the Absa Currie Cup games – starting with the Currie Cup home game for the Vodacom Blue Bulls against Western Province on 14 September. The school was given 125 free tickets to attend.

Plenty of other prizes were given away, bringing special smiles to the future stars of tomorrow. The Blue Bulls would like to thank Lehlabile Secondary School, SARU and Absa for allowing us to be part of this initiative.
