Vodacom scores pushover try in injury time to hit R1 million #TriesforTeachers

Loading...While the South African rugby teams fell just short, Vodacom scored a pushover try in injury time to increase the Tries for Teachers contribution in this year’s Vodacom SupeRugby tournament to a whopping R1 million.
After the DHL Stormers stopped painstakingly short of challenging for the title, South African teams scored a combined 183 tries in the 2015 edition which equates to a total of R915 000 towards teacher training.
Vodacom has decided to add a further R85 000 to the initiative for an even R1 million that would make the difference in the lives of others.
For every try scored by a South African team during the 2015 season Vodacom pledged R5000 toward teacher training.
Considering that the teams that scored the most tries in the season over the last few years lifted the Vodacom SupeRugby title, Vodacom added an extra motivation for South African sides to go for the tryline.
Although the Toyota Cheetahs finished bottom on the South African Conference they made the largest contribution to the campaign with the 44 tries they scored this year for a total contribution of R220 000.
Following behind them were the Vodacom Bulls and the Cell C Sharks with an equal amount of five-pointers to their tally with the 37 they scored each.
The Emirates Lions played some exciting rugby this year scoring 37 tries in total with the DHL Stormers, who claimed the Conference title crossing the whitewash 30 times while they were also awarded two penalty tries.
Toyota Cheetahs loose forward Boom Prinsloo was the biggest individual contributor and South Africa’s top try-scorer with eight behind his name for a generous donation of R40 000.
Following behind him with an equal appetite for tries were the Vodacom Bulls’ Francois Hougaard and the Toyota Cheetahs’ Francois Venter with seven each.
Tries for Teachers supports Vodacom Foundation’s flagship Mobile Education Programme for teachers to be empowered through access to Information Communication Technology (ICT).
The programme offers teacher training and has trained 20 000 teachers in Maths and Science using technology. Teachers are also trained on how to integrate ICT in the classroom.
Currently a total of 61 teacher centres have been established country wide, which offer teacher development training, youth and community programmes.
It is not only the players that will be contributing towards “Tries for Teachers” but it’s about everyone playing their part.
