Eastern Province Kings hosted Western Province in their second pre-Currie Cup warm-up match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday evening.

The Kings had a few chances throughout the match, but could not turn their opportunities into points as they lost to Province by three points.

The Kings scored their first try through prop Maks van Dyk after outside center JP du Plessis sliced through the Province defence. Scott van Breda kicked the conversion as they took an early 7 – 0 lead.

Province’s right wing Kobus van Wyk scored his team’s first try as Demetri Catrakilis leveled the scores after a successful conversion.

Kings fullback, van Breda added a further two penalties as they took a 13 – 7 lead, before Province’s left wing Seabelo Senatla scored their second try on half-time. Catrakilis added the conversion as they took a one point lead, 14 – 13, at the break.

Province captain, Juan de Jongh scored their third try fifteen minutes into the second half. Replacement flyhalf, Kurt Coleman converted as they took a 21 – 13 lead with twenty five minutes left.

Kings’ left wing Luther Obi scored a consolation try with eight minutes left, van Breda missed the conversion as they trailed 18 – 21.

Kings threw everything at Province in dying minutes, but the visitor’s defence held out to take the game 21 – 18.
