Breaking a three-match losing streak Morné Steyn starred in the Springboks’ 18-10 victory over Australia at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.

Steyn scored all of South Africa’s points, slotting two drop-goals and four penalties in their Castle Lager Rugby Championship match.

The Bok pivot’s metronomic kicking boot and a gallant defensive effort denied the tourists their first victory at Loftus Versfeld.

Statistics taken from the All Out Rugby App powered by Vodacom reflect how easily it could have been a fourth straight loss for the Boks.

The Wallabies enjoyed 55 percent of the possession and 60 percent of the territory but only have a converted try and a penalty goal to show for their efforts.

The visitors made 112 carries compared to the 92 by South Africa while they made 148 more running metres than the hosts.

Australia made 10 clean breaks, three more than the Boks, while beating 21 defenders (21-11).

The Boks had the upper hand at the breakdowns making four more turnovers than the Wallabies (10-6).

Turning in an improved defensive effort, the South Africans executed 116 tackles, 34 more than the Aussies.

The home side still battles to reduce the amount of unforced errors making 13 knock ons, two more than the opposition.

South Africa were in top form in the set pieces winning all their own lineout balls while stealing three on the opposition’s throw.
