CLIFTON FIRST RUGBY XV TO TOUR NAMIBIA

Clifton’s First XV will embark on their first international rugby tour on Sunday 30 March to Namibia, where they will spend the week playing a total of four matches, the first against Windhoek High School on Monday 31 March.  The remaining three fixtures will be played as part of the Walvis Bay Rugby Festival from 2-5 April, hosted by Walvis Bay Private High School where the boys and staff will be staying. The twenty-five strong squad have been in pre-season training since October last year and are aiming for an unbeaten record at the end of the tour. “Our ultimate aim is to win 4 out of 4 games. We are looking to develop new playing combinations within the team, find new talents within the squad and build good team spirit. It is also a chance to discover new places, meet new friends and prepare ourselves for the tough season ahead”, says assistant coach, Michael Downes. Coach, Ross Saayman, is passionate about rugby at Clifton and has seen the school grow from strength to strength over the past 8 years as the coach of the First XV. Saayman commented on the progress that Clifton rugby has made over recent years, with inspirational wins against rivals George Campbell and St Charles.
