The NSW Waratahs’ incentive to post points against the Sharks and the Stormers has grown, thanks to the generosity of team sponsor CMC Markets.

For every point the Waratahs score on their two-match tour of South Africa, CMC Markets will donate one goat to help under-privileged communities in Africa.  A subsistence farming staple, goats provide African families with milk, manure and much-needed income.

Head of CMC Markets ANZ, Matt Lewis says he’s not ‘kidding’ about his pledge to donate goats for goals.  “The Waratahs have a strong team in South Africa and I am expecting to purchase a big herd of goats for African families based on their performances so far this season!

With the Waratahs averaging just over 32 points a game, Lewis added, “We’ll be following the team’s progress in South Africa with interest and what’s really great about these two matches is that every time they score, a family in Africa wins too.”

For each point the Waratahs score against the Sharks in Durban and the Stormers in Cape Town, CMC Markets will donate an Oxfam Unwrapped goat gift to help support vulnerable communities in Africa. One goat per point might have the locals butting heads over their loyalties when the Waratahs take on the Sharks in Durban followed by the Stormers in Cape Town.

Oxfam spokeswoman Yvette Petersen said Oxfam Australia was overjoyed by the offer of support. “This is an incredibly generous gesture from CMC Markets and the Waratahs that will help bring positive change to vulnerable communities in Africa and contribute to a poverty free future.”

Goats play a key role in the livelihoods of rural communities and truly are the gift that keeps on giving. Not only do they provide milk and manure for fertilizing crops, they also take care of the household waste, feeding on rubbish and unwanted scraps. They can also be bred to provide more goats that can be sold to pay for school fees or buy tools.

Petersen added, “Oxfam is a non-partisan, secular organisation and we make a point of not taking sides but when it comes to the Waratahs games against the Sharks and the Stormers, we will be backing the Waratahs all the way.

“Thank you and goat luck!”
