Vodacom Rugby App Review – Round 4 – Rugby World Cup

13 OCTOBER 2015 – Bryan Habana spearheaded South Africa’s rout of the USA in their final group game of the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England to top Pool B and secure a quarterfinal berth.

The South African flyer topped the try-scoring statistics of the final round of the round-robin phase of the tournament thanks to his hat-trick of tries.

Habana was not alone with his 3 tries, as the English duo of Jack Nowell and Nick Easter both recorded hat-tricks against Uruguay.

While nothing should be taken away from the two Britons’ try-scoring heroics, Habana’s effort earned him a place in the World Cup history books.

Habana equaled legendary New Zealand wing Jonah Lomu’s record for the total number of tries scored across World Cups by increasing his tally to 15 from three tournaments.

While three players scored hat-tricks in the final pool games, four players from four different teams scored a brace of tries each in their respective matches.

South African flanker Francois Louw dotted down twice, with Anthony Watson (England), Nehe Milner Skudder (New Zealand), and Adrian Apostol (Romania) also getting in on the action.

Despite South Africa’s big win, Scottish captain Greig Laidlaw deservedly topped the Vodacom Rugby App’s Points category with the 26 points he contributed in his side’s 36-33 victory over Samoa courtesy of a try, five penalty conversions, and three conversion kicks.

The Springboks were in rampant form against the Americans running in 10 tries – including a penalty try – with SA players also featuring high up in other attacking statistics.

Bryan Habana, Jesse Kriel, Damian de Allende and Willie le Roux were among South Africa’s sharpest weapons making three Clean Breaks each in the game.

De Allende was also among the top-ranked players in the Defenders Beaten category with his tally of eight.

Towering Springbok lock Lood de Jager once again put his body on the line and was among the top defenders in the fourth round.

De Jager made 20 tackles against the US, which is only four less than Nambia’s Wian Conradie, who was the top tackler of the round.

He was equally affective in his primary role as lineout jumper taking seven balls on the Springboks’ throw with Vermeulen and Pieter-Steph du Toit also among the top jumpers of the round with four each.
