Toyota Cheetahs vs Emirates Lions 

 

The Toyota Cheetah team to take on the Emirates Lions on Saturday, 25 April at 17:05 at the Emirates Airline Park in Johannesburg has been announced.   

 

Changes to the team: 

 

·         BG Uys is suffering from a back injury and will be on the side line for about three weeks.  He will be replaced by Danie Mienie with Caylib Oosthuizen on the bench.

·         Tienie Burger will be replacing Heinrich Brussow who broke his arm during the game against the Reds. Carel Greeff is the replacement.

·         Joe Pietersen will start on fullback.  Coenie van Wyk was injured in the game against the Reds (ligament – out for approximately four weeks).  

·         Willie du Plessis will take up the duty as fly half with Clayton Blommetjies on the bench. 

 

The referee for the match is Jaco van Heerden.  He will be assisted by Marius van der Westhuizen and Ben Crouse with Johan Greeff as TMO.

 

Previous encounters


This game will mark the 12th Super Rugby encounter between the two teams since the first on 13 May 2006 at Absa Park in Kimberley.


The Lions are leading with six wins to the five victories of the Toyota Cheetahs.


It will also be the sixth time the teams meet at the Emirates Airline Park – previously known as Ellis Park – since the first Johannesburg encounter on 5 May 2007. Out of the five previous matches in Johannesburg, the Lions won three and the Toyota Cheetahs two games.


The last game between these two teams was on the 5th of April 2014 at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein and ended in a draw of 43-43.
