Aucklanders urged to get involvedCeremony is a chance to be a part of historyTime is running out – deadline extended to June 26Aucklanders are being urged to get involved in the Opening Ceremony for Rugby World Cup 2011 as ceremony organisers extend the call for volunteers.

“This is an amazing opportunity to be part of history,” said Auckland-based choreographer Shona McCullagh who is a member of the creative team for the Opening Ceremony.

“Hundreds have already put their hands up which is fantastic, but we need more and time is running out.”
She stressed that that participants need not be highly skilled performers, but that the emphasis is on athletic ability and enthusiasm.

“You don’t have to be able to dance to be in this show as we need participants of all levels of ability to get involved. In particular we need lots of big burly blokes to represent New Zealand’s strong Rugby community.”
Those interested are invited to register by June 26 and suitable candidates will be asked to attend a brief casting call.

“These casting calls are a great way for us to figure out how to best use each participant. There is a very simple group movement task that each applicant will be asked to complete. It’s exciting and not scary.

“If you ever wanted an excuse to run out on to Eden Park and have fun, then this it!”

Participants are required to attend a number of rehearsals in Auckland from July to September.
