Hooker Chad Solomon will captain DHL Western Province XV in their friendly match against the Steval Pumas at DHL Newlands on Saturday.

The friendly encounter, which kicks off at 12h25 on Saturday, will be the curtain-raiser for the Vodacom Super Rugby clash between the DHL Stormers and the Toyota Cheetahs.

There are nine club players in the 29-man squad, as DHL Western Province Coach John Dobson has a careful look at his options ahead of the Supersport Rugby Challenge.

Dobson said that he is excited to see some of the amateur players take their opportunity at DHL Newlands this weekend.

“We have got nine talented club players who are in the mix through Jerome Paarwater’s talent identification programme and they will be keen to make an impression when they get the chance at DHL Newlands on Saturday.

“We want to ensure that we cast the net wide enough so that when we start the Supersport Rugby Challenge we have the best available options at our disposal,” he said.

These club stars will be playing alongside some established names in a squad that features eight players with Vodacom Super Rugby experience.

“There are some players in this team on the fringes of the DHL Stormers squad, so although it is friendly we expect to see some wholehearted performances from this side,” Dobson added.
