Tevita Kuridrani – Judiciary update

Loading...Qantas Wallabies centre Tevita Kuridrani has received a five-week suspension for an alleged dangerous tackle in Saturday night’s Test against Ireland at Aviva Stadium.
The Australian Rugby Union will wait to receive a written judgement tomorrow, Wednesday 20 November, before considering its options.
Kuridrani was charged under Law 10.4 (j) which states ‘Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player’s feet are still off the ground such that the player’s head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play’.
Kuridrani appeared before IRB-appointed Judicial Officer, Professor Lorne Crerar, who categorised the tackle in the mid-range of the IRB’s entry point for sanctions (8 weeks).
The Judicial Officer then added a further week to reflect the need for a deterrent for the type of tackle but allowed mitigation of four weeks to reflect the player’s previous good disciplinary record and other mitigating factors.
The alleged incident occurred in the 72nd minute of Australia’s match against Ireland.
Kuridrani has the right of appeal.
