WESTERN FORCE UNABLE TO OVERCOME BRUMBIES

Loading...The Western Force has gone down fighting against the ACT Brumbies, 27-15, tonight at Canberra’s GIO Stadium tonight.
The home side held a 19-8 lead at the break, with the Force’s first-half try coming through returning club favourite, Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins, who crashed over in the left-hand corner with his second touch of the ball.
The Force held the majority of ball throughout the match – rampaging lock Steve Mafi capitalising on the weight of possession with his side’s second try – but were unable to breach the Brumbies defence for a third time, with the ACT side running out four-tries-to-two-victors.
No.8 Ben McCalman was again dominant for the Force, continuing to provide his side with significant go-forward with ball in hand, while Chris Alcock made a successful return from a leg injury and was in the thick of the action in continually bringing down Brumbies runners, as well as making valuable metres with the ball.
The Force will return to Perth to play their second home match in their opening seven matches, against the Melbourne Rebels on Friday, 13 March.
